You should certainly keep them engaged through facebook & twitter. I have found pinterest to be mostly worthwhile only with niches with lots of visual content, such as food recipies or fashion.

Yes they definitely do. I was a member of a gaming forum back in 2004, it's since finished, and they had a section for people to buy forum templates even back then.

People definitely buy templates for forums.. I think vBulletin and SMF would probably be your two best bets. It's just like Wordpress themes though. Maybe not quite as big, but there is money in it...
