Folder is better, but if you think the new blog might get some dodgy links (or you build them) then go with a subdomain.

(mysite.com/blog) is the better choice. Because the page authority will flow to your blog.

new folder, google will count it as part of your site. If you choose subdomain, it will counted as new domain/site, it's mean you have to optimize it from the star
