I like the second design more, but I do agree with website design about the only having one red button. Other than that, I like the busy look, considering the niche and what the site is targeting.

Purely for ease of use, I suggest Wordpress. There are a ton of other options, such as Joomla, or the rarely mentioned Drupal.
In my experience, the easier the use, the less you can do with it...

Assuming you are promoting an affiliate offer, a landing page is likely the safest way to go. Plus, you can use a LP to help track conversions to an extent.

Having multiple accounts is not a bad idea at all, depending on how important your sites are to you. If one goes down, a simple switch of nameservers can have you back up and running.
