I would say, make sure you build your foundation first, that is make sure you have good on-page SEO. Do you have your keyword in the title, description, URL and through the body?

It wouldn't hurt...

First step is to make sure your on page SEO is optimised (link to an authority site, 500 words + of good content, H tags,...
