Well both are right.

You are getting confused due to the fact they employ two totally different strategy to making money.

One focuses on affiliate, and not on SEO, and the other the opposite.

You can drive traffic to your site while you're waiting for it to rank in Google.


Buying traffic is a good solution while you're waiting.. and still even after you've ranked.

You can backlink from day 1. Nothing wrong with that. Just do it naturally. Don't pay a guy on Fiverr.com $5 to give you a thousand backlinks. Google will see it and just slap your PR.

Google picks up sites almost overnight these days. I see a site appearing the next night after creation on google. Maybe they are referring to "ranking well"? Or getting to number 1?
