Most likely you will want to use sitemap.xml
Have you inspected the actual source of the two - does it match sitemaps protocol?

No, as the earlier linked article states, that is not the way. You should instead include a reference to your xml sitemap file in the robots.txt file and/or submit your XML sitemap in Google...

Any half-decent sitemapper will respect nofollow, noindex, canonical, robots.txt etc. (If unsure, ask support of whatever tool you use or check the actual generated XML sitemaps.)

200.000 pages for an XML sitemap is not...
