It has always taken 7 days from the time I submit my sitemap to google in the webmaster tools to get my index page indexed. That is just the index, it can longer for the rest of the pages.

They are good for several reasons. If you are submitting to hundreds of article directories then you should at least have your anchor text spun don't you think? So Google doesn't think you spammed...
