Forum links do work as long as they're followed. However, make sure they're part of a wider mix of links. Forum links on there own will have little value.

Alexa is a very rough estimate of traffic levels. It can easily be manipulated by just a few users with the Alexa toolbar. SEMrush and other tools give a more accurate picture.

Seems as if Google has lost faith in the Google places project. It still shows up in local searches but with critical information now missing I'm not sure its as worthwhile as before.

It is diffiuclt for any individual page to rank for more than 6 to 8 keywords. Once you reach this limit it is time to start looking for a new page. So 100 keywords implies about 14 pages.
