I regularly check domains on GoDaddy and NameCheap and will often come back weeks or even a month later to purchase them. I've never had a problem like this. They have always still been available.

Also, if you intend to register a business name, be sure to buy the domain name first for ten bucks because afterwards it will likely cost thousands as soon as someone knows you're going to want it.
