lamberw is correct. I had a pr4 site at one time when I had a home business opportunity site. Google showed very few backlinks even though I had pr4. No one will ever see their cards.

Google or Yahoo won't give you the true number of backlinks. Yahoo's figure will be closer to the mark.
They don't reveal the true numbers because it would make is easier for people to find out...

malwarebytes is a great suggestion too
