Without a doubt, Wordpress is your best option.

But don't use wordpress.com sites...

Use Wordpress-hosting on other hosts, so you can use plugins and other features :)

Blogger is a nice platform if you're a newbie in blogging world. But I would recommend you to use WordPress, install a nice looking decent theme and few SEO related plugins and you're good to go.

A selfhosted website will definitely increase traffic as compared to using a free blog website. After creating your website, you can install Wordpress and desing your site to look very SEO friendly
