It's probably a churn & burn strategy where they utilize huge networks like SAPE or spam their way to the top in other ways. Check back in 2-3 weeks to see if he still is there. 99% chance he's not....

Your best bet is to 301 redirect all the old pages to the new pages to show the search engines that your old...
