I've done tons of SEO in the past, got sites on page one for opportunities, things going well, getting traffic, making sales --- and wham!!

Google moves my site off of page one and the traffic...

Great for you... It's a good idea to do all this yourself. Then (like you said) there is no dependency.

However, this is a very tall order. That is a lot to learn and it may take a few months...
