The best advice I can give is don't try and reinvent the wheel the first time around. Look at other "models of success". Sites that are successfully doing similar to what you intend to do.

It all boils down to what features you need/want. A good suggestion is to look at sites which are doing something similar to what you have in mind. Then explore to see what they are using....
