Think of it as paying ClickBank for their affiliate base. That's probably their most valuable asset, lots of affiliates trust them, use them, there's a lot of thrid-party services (like cb-analytics)...

That's one of the shortcomings of CB in my opinion. Being able to offer coupons is a good strategy to generate quick sales. But then the whopping transaction fee leaves small profit margins.
