It's easier to get sites to link to you if you have a more standard homepage, my site looks "affiliate." I guess the rankings would not transfer over to the article, I thought maybe they would.

And yes, you should write meta descriptions, that's what people see in search, it may make them click on your page instead of other pages in SERPS.

People often "noindex" tags to stop duplicate content. Not "nofollow." You nofollow links to sites you don't trust.
