It totally depends on the nature of the ad.

"Make money" type ads get more clicks, then valuable tools.

The real problem with IM forums these days is they're not scalable. They are shrinking...

I made a few sales when I had a WSO type product in my .sig. Now I use it to get some traction on my projects... the .sig is good for getting some initial interest in a site.

talfighel is definitely correct. You do not want all your eggs in one basket. If that basket goes away then you have nothing. If you have multiple streams and one dries up you have other ways to...

I get around 5-15 visitors a day through the signature.

Cost totally depended the blogs rating like, DA(Domain Authority), Majestic trust flow where you want to post your content. If you choose 30+ DA blogs then cost will be higher..

I probably get several a day. I don't track the exact amount. However, I noticed the traffic my signature does bring me is very high quality and converts quite well for my free e-course.
