GSA is my go to tool for tiered linking. I treat is as a "Xrumer Lite". It doesn;t offer the control of content or placement that AAA tools like SENuke and Ultimate Demon do , but for a one off fee...

The perception is that Google has got a lot better at filtering.
I'm sure they have indeed got better at it.
What I'm not so certain about is just how much.
