Email marketing is the only way to go.
Leveraging the thank you page is always a must too, as mentioned above. Using a CPA/CPL offer on your thank you page is a great way to generate revenue...

I've signed up for a lot of mailing lists, but I rarely stay on them for more than a week...

I'm on around 15-20 list.. Been around on buyers list for about 40-50% of them.. And as Ben said, it's a great way to learn email marketing from these people for free..

AIDA model:
Awareness - Get your users aware of the product
Interest - Have them interested with the benefits of the product...
