Yeah, I agree. They can see anyone's incoming links if they want to. I'm just saying that adding your site to google webmaster's gives them a "headstart" on the sites to auto-check incoming links...

Yep... well, I'd say over 90%. I'm pretty certain that google also has another measure for content quality and bounce rate (when it can be measured).

Yes - dead easy. With Google's new search feature, you can sort out only Discussions > Blogs and things like that. You just need to know what to search for in Google and what commands to use. :)

Yeah, indexing is "important" in the beginning, but it's really not that tough to get a site indexed/crawled by Google. Once it's indexed, you need to concentrate on the SEO side of things or else...

Yeah, don't do keyword stuffing. Long term (which is what you should be after), your sites won't rank well. And like SEOArbiter said, concentrate more on off-page factors like link building.
