Yeah, it can defiantly increase pagerank, but I wouldn't suggest this to be your only form of backlinks.

Since it is a Web 2.0 I wouldn't be as worried of Google slapping it in a future update....

I use TimeDoctor for my VA's to track time since it provides screenshots too, but I also have those with a fixed rate which I send them the tasks to be completed on a weekly basis.
