I use twitter the same way I use my lists, so I respectfully disagree that all it's good for is backlinks. I'd use the professional SocialOomph, it's the best of what I've tried

Yup, Social Oomph is great especially if you have many accounts. It also can help with facebooks and blogs.

for a freebie, search Google...there are still some floating around. I use Tweet Adder...their service is non-existent but the software is good...when it works.
