Link velocity is a total myth. Spikes in links are much more 'natural' than getting a consistent number of links each day, week, or month.

That is custom adsense search and you have to apply for that separately before you can use such formats. This is different from creating custom search engine.

We're not sure if that page is really ranking since it is a personalized search results. But if you really want the homepage to rank, I think you should build backlinks to the homepage with keyword...
