This is what I need to do, create a list. I've always heard the money is in the list but just haven't made one as of yet. I guess what holds me back is I don't really know what to send my users... Sure I could send them links to my latest post but other than that just not sure.

It's a lot of work. You have to send them quality content or they will just ban you from their inbox. Gmail makes it very easy for users to ignore promotional content, or to filter it altogether.

Don't be blatant about your promotion, either. Mention in your content how your widget can help them, but don't beat them over the head with it. You want to present yourself as an expert in your niche, not as a used-widget salesman.

Share it on social media, of course.

If you have a social media presence established, that would be the obvious first move to take.

Keep in mind, though, that you shouldn't bombard your fans with links to your site. You need to post to OTHER people more than you do yourself. This is important for building a following.

    Hey pennyroll,

After I write a great post, and publish it, here are the things that I do to get it a bit more exposure.

    1. I submit it to Pingomatic , a website directory, so that it can be indexed in Google search.

    2. I submit my site to Digg

    3. I submit my site to Reddit,

    4. Last, I build a couple backlinks. usually in the form of writing a couple articles from .edu or .gov backlinks. . . plus, I share it on Facebook, and GooglePlus.

Using this routine, I am easily able to get a blog post over 100 views within a day of publishing it.

    Hope this helps you out!

    -Josh

Thanks for all that, I like Ping-o-Matic, first time I've seen it and I like it! Thanks for that. I sometimes submit certain types of posts to Reddit but not too much these days. Basically only if there is a very specific subreddit I can submit to without coming out as blog spam. Again thanks for the suggestions!

Be careful with link directories. If the directory is listing everything under the sun, it could hurt you.

I am working the multiple format for my posts.

    Make an audio recording

    Post recording as a podcast

Ad images and post as a video

Create blog post with video embeded

I also utilize pdf sharing and slideshare sites.

Indeed you need an audience if you are sharing on social media and the rule of thumb is 1 promotional piece per every 5 non promotional piece. The 80/20 rule in effect.
