Ever seen those links on modals that try to shame you for not clicking the CTA? The ones where there is a big bright CTA and a small grey line saying "No I don't need to get better". The authors perform user testing comparing the reactions to these manipulinks from WomensHealth and WebMD showing how manipulinks can contribute to a lasting negative perception of your site even if it does lead to a slight increase in microconversions.
