Using 'Fake' followers to get over the initial 'awkward' stage.

Hi guys,

Just a quick question.

When starting a new facebook page, I always feel compelled to add a few thousand bot followers in order to get over the initial phase of only having 20 or 30 likes.

I have it in mind, that by having a couple thousand followers to start with, people adopt the 'monkey see, monkey do' mentality, and are more inclined to like the page. I also feel that it makes the page look more legit, and more authoritative within the niche. Of course, as it is facebook, people can't view the likes list to check the legitimacy of the likes

Obviously bot followers won't make you money, but they can attract the people that will.

Does anyone else do this? Is my thought-process making sense?

Feedback appreciated.

Thanks,

Jack

Launch a Facebook "Like" ad campaign. When targeted properly, you can get REAL fans for as little as $0.10 each. I did this for my local soccer site and now I'm a local celebrity in my county and THE source for local youth soccer coverage.

Those 2,000 fake likes will kill your page engagement and make it much less likely that any real person who happens to like your page will ever see any of your posts. Set up a Like Campaign and pay Facebook for the first several thousand likes and you'll be much better off. You'll get real like from people who will engage with your content as long as you post stuff they want to see.

This is the most common MOVE of people who sell sites. Why?
Because at every single site they need to get new social media, new profiles.
Buying new likes will jumpstart your business. GO to fiverr buy initial a likes to attract more likes!

  • Having fake likes isn't a bad idea but it's unethical in my book. It will most likely make people think your site is popular and will attract new likes because of this. It's up to you to decide if it's ethical or not.

    Folks....

If you don't understand the relationship between Facebook likes / reach / engagement, please stop doling out advice on buying likes. You are providing hideous advice to people when you tell them it's OK or even a good idea to buy likes - it's not. It's a terrible idea.

As mentioned above already by another poster, buying fake likes will kill your engagement, which will, in turn, kill your reach, which in, turn, kills your traffic. You will then be back here on the forum whining about why your reach is only 2% and how "evil" Facebook is for making you pay to advertise.

I have exactly 1400 real fans of my local site as of today (many obtained with a simple Facebook like campaign). The campaign cost me maybe $150 or so. Know what my reach is for virtually every post I make to my timeline? 40%-60% I often see reach of OVER 100%.

Do you know what kind of traffic that generates? My website typically receives 500-1000 visitors per day. Yesterday alone, my website saw 1600 visitors and well over 98% came directly from my Facebook page.

Moral of story - Avoid fake likes and spend a few bucks running a campaign to get real likes. Stop wasting your time and money on fiverr....

I would suggest to run more targeted LIKE ads, as well as hosting say a ..."caption this" contest - Also stay engaged with your users, by answering their questions, liking their posts etc.
Another suggestion is to put a CTA on your posts, directing ppl to do!
    Good Luck!

Like the people said before, just buying likes will kill your engagement. I see the logic behind your original thoughts, but this works only if your posts are being received by 90%-100% of your followers. With Facebook's current policy, sometimes only fake bots might receive your posts if you use regular posting style for your page.

Don't! As Wolfmmiii has already kindly pointed out, the problem with getting these fake likes is, well, that they're fake and none of these bots or people from third world countries who've been told to click "like" on your page are going to give a damn about the content you put on your page. This in turn heavily impacts upon your EdgeRank and so the number of real people (if you actually get any...) that are reached by your posts will be very, very low. And as you've pointed out, it's real people that are going to make you money. So resist the urge to drop your $5 on Fiverr and either run an ad campaign or contest as others have already suggested, or spend some time building relationships with influencers in your niche that cater to the same audience that you're trying to reach.

I haven't messed with FB Pages in a while but I will say that I have done this in the past but only with maybe 500 or so followers to kickstart my page. It worked very well for me as far as getting thousands of real followers. People tend to like things that others like and what seems popular....that's the experience I've had but like I said this was a long while back..2+ years back. In no way am I telling you to do this though and NO, it is not ethical.

The problem is that alot has changed in two years. Buying "likes" now is a ticket to failure nowadays.

I'd say Facebook Ads is more effective because you'll be paying for actual people to like your page and it'll be a lot better than having fake people only like and not interacting any other way.

  • Buying likes is a recipe for disaster. As said above just build up the page through like campains.

Boosting posts and paying for fb ads is a better idea. wolfmmiii explained it perfectly in his post, buying likes will just lower your engagement and then you're doomed. Also, people CAN realize that you've bought likes when they see, let's say 5000 likes on your page and 0 likes on your posts.

Exactly. If you don`t have a business which will promote by itself and by users, fake likes are the worst thing. My competitor throw away thousands of dollars just to have thousands of likes, but they actually have zero - max 10 likes per post.

I wouldn't bother with fake followers.
I started by getting paid advertising at low CPC countries.

People might live in different countries to your market, but it doesn't mean they won't be interested in your topic.
