Is anyone successfully using Google+ ?

Wondering whether anyone is successfully using Google + for their brand/shop/whatever?

Is the reach similar to Facebook Pages (= low reach if you don't pay)? And is it hard to get a following there?

I'm currently running the Google+ page for the company I work with. I'd say out reach is smaller than Facebook (we certainly have less followers) but that's expected as G+ is much smaller than Facebook.

As far as gathering a following, I'd say it's more difficult there. I've done much better at finding followers on Twitter.

But! Google+ is very helpful to brands with physical locations. If you list your branch and opening times you can get a significant SEO boost. It's worth it for that alone. I know G+ business pages have helped me make purchasing decisions a lot in the past couple of months.

IMO this is the most beneficial aspect of Google+. The integration with other Google services like Maps can drive a lot of traffic, physical and otherwise.

It really depends upon your niche. If you do not find many circles in your niche, then I would not focus my time or energy there (except as stated above for physical location). It may be worth it in the long run, so perhaps having an account going & doing what you can is not a complete waste of time, but if you do not see a lot of activity, do not beat yourself up about it. If/when your niche becomes popular on the site, then you can focus more time there.

For me, Google+ is like the biggest pain in the butt ever. Nobody is on there, nobody seems to use it, BUT it's Google so you have to use it for SEO. I mean, I don't know for sure if that really matters that much, but I really feel like it has to have some effect. So I post on there. But I don't sell, I don't really care. I phone it in. That's probably bad... but... oh well.

Google + is good. I found some posts I shared on the site appearing in the SERP.
