Facebook Ads CPC are not so cheap, Why?

So, I'm currently running FB Ads for my client promoting weightloss for a her local clinic. I'm sending responses to her FB Page Landing Tab.

The target market is women over 30yrs and the geo target population is 200,000.

I started bidding at the suggested CPC rate of $0.58 cents. I did not get any impressions nor clicks. So I up'd the CPC bid to $1.30 and I still didn't receive any impressions or clicks.
So I increased my bids some more to $1.80, and I am now seeing a few impressions and so far 5 clicks to the FB Landing Tab.

The landing tab asks people if they would like to see a cool video on how to reduce weight fast, in return for an email address optin.

I thought FB Ads would be a cheaper option but at almost $2.00 per click I don't think her budget of $20 per day is going to achieve the desired results of more customers in the door.

How can I get the price of the CPC down?

  • Hey Zoro

First your running ads in one of thee most competitive niches out there....and the prob is FB knows this.

Try and get alot more creative with your ads / targeting.

Also when targeting US, CAN and or UK these also have high CPC's...

Reality from here on thru to 2015 and beyond

    • Pay to Play eh, yeah looks like FB Ads are starting to catch up with Adwords pricing.
  • Seems like there is a lot of competition for this niche on FB. Maybe add more keywords and a few more campaigns to see if things do change for the better.

I would recommend you try Bing.com out and see how it works for you there.

    • Yes, I might give Bing a try.

I told her I was a internet marketer and that I could get her more clients .. lol. I wish I never said that now, because it ain't so easy or cheap any more.
  • I'm not a Facebook expert. But have spent quite a bit of money on the platform. Try international.. Yes I just noticed the right side ads are quite a bit more with the new ad sizes. I took a break from Facebook and now looking to get back..

  • I think it's more your targeting, ad, bidding strategy and offer. Not the source or the niche. I am getting $0.05 clicks in the weight loss niche. So, it can be done. But everything has to be right.

    • Thanks for your input to this thread.

Wow, 5 cent clicks in weight-loss niche, that's great, and that's what I want. But how can I target better. I am already targeting women over 30yrs who live in a certain city, and most women are interested in looking good.

So how can I target better so I get 5 cent clicks?

  • I've never sent traffic to a fb tab...only to a website. And sure, "everyone wants to look good". But someone who wants to lose 5 pounds to look good is a much different person than someone who needs to lose 100 pounds. In fact, someone who needs to lose 100 pound is more concerned with losing weight for health reasons than vanity. And it's much easier to convert someone who is already trying to lose weight than to convince someone they need to lose weight.

And they surely don't want to see a cool video. They want to lose as much weight as possible with as little effort as possible. As fast as possible. They want to "Discover A Simple Weight Loss Trick That Women Over 30 In (Their City) Are Using To Lose Up To 10 Pounds In 10 Days". Or they want "One Thing Women Over 30 In (Their City) Can Do Today To Reduce Fight Diabetes".

I doubt either one of those headlines would be approved, but thats what they want. Youjust have to phrase it differently to get it approved.

I also always use oCPM. Then Facebook will us their user data to show your ads to people who are most likely to take the desired action.

I have a feeling the troubles you are having are...everything.

    • Yes, I agree with everything you say, it makes sense.

My Ad was approved and my Headline is "Lose Tummy Fat in 1 hr" .. See if you Qualify ...Click Here to complete our 2 min survey and watch the cool info video"

    • interesting I was in the weight loss niche. So you are saying, you are able to get 5 cent clicks with right side ads? If so, I'm assuming you are cloaking your campaigns or doing international. Anyway any feedback would be great

  • Go with oCPM, you always get more impressions.

Also, tell your client $20 is far from enough. These local clinics usually take a lot of money out of their clients, so tell her to increase the budget.

    Cheers
  • Well, i think you dont need to focus in price per click but how much will cost you each conversion. If you spent $2 and get $100 subscription, who cares right? You need to research the laser target audience, ages, sex, etc and for that you will need to do a deep analysis, because if you are going tobe too broad the price will go up since your ctr will sux and the cpc or cpm go up after researching do some ads and then start doing some split test so u can find your winner
  • The competition of Weight Loss niche in facebook is really really high. But there are also some folks getting $0.20 clicks from facebook. Try to find out!
Also why you don't use Bing ads?

    • Thanks for your comments.

Yes, I am looking at Bing Ads now. At least with Google and Bing Ads the user is actively searching out for a particular product or service, so the targeting is already done.

Facebook Ads are "Interruption Ads" and many people will just click on them for the hell of it.
