Cover photos for FB/Twitter/LI profiles

I know there's an option to upload a cover or background photo on these platforms.

However, I don't know the decision of what to use has more to do with brand building, direct response leveraging, or graphic design decision.

I'd love to hear some input on how you handle this.

For me, It's about brand building. Your profile picture and the cover photo are the first things that people look at when they come to your profile, and it may be the thing that they remember you by. If your covers and Dps are consistent then they may create an impression and people may remember your brand.

Further more good covers and profile pictures may just be the reason that people decide to check your page out.

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to be personally business famous, then brand building is the way to go. Easy to read logo and a few words for your tagline on a neutral background.

Direct response needs your website. A real one, not a wix or weebly or wordpress dot com. Nothing wrong with those, but your cover photo is not clickable to your URL and you need one that is easy for people to remember when they type it into the address bar.

You need a graphic design that is easy to read. You don't really need one that is phenomenally designed. As a matter of fact, if someone is saying "Wow, i really love the design of that Facebook cover photo" you are losing their interest in what you really want them to be doing.

Cover photos are a plausible & politic option for you to showcase some aspect of your brand to your visitors. These can be used in a number of ways:
    1. People generally use photo collages to highlight multiple products/services in an aesthetic way to give users a panoramic view of what your page is all about.
    2. You can also use this real-estate to highlight some new/latest offers/deals/announcements.
    3. Testimonials: Got an enviable testimonial from some members with high clout? showcase it on the page.
    4. Achievements: If you have won awards, if you have achieved X likes milestones.
    5. Contests & winners: if you are arranging any to showcase to the world that your brand is animated and full of social vibes.
    6. Backoffice photos: of your team, culture, workspace to give more human touch to your profile.
