I would recommend building accounts on Google+ , Facebook, and Twitter. Building accounts doesn't mean building them and leaving them, initially you'll have to work a lot to stabilize them. If it seems too much work you can start working on them on at a time. I am not sure pinterest will work well for you in the niche you described, but you can try. LinkedIn is also good if you're trying to connect B2B.

Search the forums you'll find threads regarding how to get traffic from all three platforms. I wrote one regarding Twitter earlier.

The rules are pretty much the same on all networks, you just have to tweak them according to the audience in all platforms. You can find a lot of creative ideas to appeal the people all over internet.

Study your competitors, the successful ones, and look at how they manage their pages. What are they doing to get attention. How are people responding from them. Shape your own campaign based on that. Try to give people all that they are doing with something extra. As much as you can manage.

Social media isn't about hard selling, it's all about building customer relationships. You must engage your consumers, you must get them to trust you by interacting with them. let me share a few step process which im using now a days for getting traffic n lead genration.
after a lot of studies i have reached to this method.

1st) use video in place of images in ur ad creation...video's are in right now..use video with communication to create curiosity in user.
2)use "timeline optim" it will help to make this video a lead genrater tool.
at a fix time a popup will come asking to put "name" n "email id" with a dilog button "sign in" or something else....this will get u serious leads data..the data will be collected in the timeline optin ..also the moment the user fill in these details..he will be redirected to the url u want...it can be ur fb page or ur site or may be ur blog.
3)use a auto responder mailing service..connect it to timeline optin...it will respond back to the user with ur ready mailer.
4)for making this video ad reach to millions..use FB ad or u can use some fb automation software to post it to 100's of groups or target the required client.

now u got the list of leads..keep on using them for future business genration.

Actually its depend on that people & your post because if people like your post/people find there expected content on Facebook then people will engage more.
