Just signed up in LinkedIn

Hello,
OK, I just signed up in LinkedIn.

I am a freelance web designer working from home.

Now what would my 1st job? I mean with whom shall I connect to get leads? Will I just send add request to people whom I don't know and they also don't know me.

I just dont want to do that. I don't want to look like a poor spammer and I don't want to connect with people whom I don't know.

So how will I proceed?

Thank you.

I am already a Fiverr seller. But now I am aiming to work with/for big people. And again comes the question, as a new user should I start connecting with those whom I don't know and they don't know me or shall I just keep posting my works, portfolios on LinkedIn and not to connect with anyone at the moment?

the first thing to do is filling your resume
    google something like this:
"how to build a professional linkedin profile"
follow tips in results, and when you have a good resume, connect with people you already know.
sending invitation to strangers is a very unprofessional thing to do in linkedin. instead, try joining related and active groups. those are main screen to show your work and your personal brand.
if you can, answer questions in groups. let the members know you and then, try connecting.

The easiest way to build a relationship with someone on LinkedIn is by joining groups related to your field. Perform a search for groups where you know you could provide value and help others in need of your expertise.

When you join these groups start participating in discussions. Provide your input and answer any questions that people might have. When you've done this for a certain period of time not only will you feel more comfortable connecting with these people, but they will be more than happy to accept your connection requests.

  • Agree with fmmajd. You must have a strong profile based on your expertise. Starting contribution in the related group to your skills can find you great friends of your field. This is the one professional way you can make a good entry. Sending just spamming connections can be resulted in spoiling your reputation.

Build a professional profile for your business on LinkedIn by providing all the information and details about your business.
Use a professional photo of yourself while creating your personal profile and use your business logo while creating business profile.
Networking, testimonials in the form of recommendations, adding projects you work on and linking your clients to the project, you can link your Behance portfolio to it.

I have received several job offers from LinkedIn and I actually don't have a lot on there besides some recommendations and endorsements from colleagues and clients.

Ashraf Chahudry Page on Facebook is looking for a web Designer, You may want to apply there.

Have you got previous work experience?

Build a complete profile. Fill all possible details. Join Groups relative to your niche, and you may be able to identitify people there who may be interested. Connect with people who interest you. I don't think it would be considered spam if you're just sending a request to form a connection.

I don't know if you can put up samples on LinkedOn or not, but I would recommend you to put em up.

Also, I think you will find some points in this article useful.
