Facebook Page Likes Decline

Since the 24th of february my pages have had an unusual amount of unlikes has anyone else experienced this issue & if so do you have any idea what is causing it?
i saw a few users on twitter mention it but not alot else..

https://twitter.com/SayWeCanFly/stat...80035454599168
https://twitter.com/shalieb/status/571016152597581824

I usually lose between 30 - 50 likes per day at the moment that number is up to 100 - 200

is this a facebook bug or is facebook up to something?

Never heard of this, maybe they are fake likes, and fb banned those accounts?

nah i've never used anything to inflate likes , massive celebs are losing likes as well, my friends are having similar issues with their pages also , seems to be a facebook wide problem but we have no idea why or what is happening..

      only started on the 24th

This is likely just a cleansing of fake profiles and such. Twitter recently did this as well.

the only other thing i have saw was someone metion they may be removing fans that have personally been inactive for 60 days or more from like counts but that was from a non reliable source. could it be that?

Yeah. It's just Facebooks way of fighting the spam bots! lol You ever see those offers on Fiverr and such that are like "get 1K FB Likes for $5.00", well those are fake profiles! And facebook is mad so they are deleting them.

And even if they were real, like some of the good ones are, Facebook still gets mad cause they want you to buy fans via THEIR ppc platform. Chai feel?

So frustrating.. i guess we will find out eventually why this is happening
at the moment though its really annoying since there has been no explanation from facebook or any credible news sources about this issue, definitely a facebook-wide problem though effecting both large and small pages / non-celebs and celebs / verified and non-verified profiles

I agree with the fact that this might be due to removal of fake profiles and this is a good thing as they were not useful anyway.

    Hi O,

How did you obtain the Likes? Organically? Like.....did people Like your Page based on your manipulating some system? Or did they Like your Page through your valued blog, or through your valued updates, or through your valued, sincere networking?

Not sure why, but when you see Likes decline like this, many times it's the tidal effect of trying to manipulate systems. Like, if you aren't doing things organically, and genuinely, Facebook finds out and removes any Likes gained through some automatic, contrived process.

I'd say if you want to increase your Likes, do it one person at a time, so at least the folks will genuinly Like your Page and spread the word for you. This is the solid foundation upon which you can build your marketing empire

Or if you're already doing that I've no clue why Facebook would take those Like's away from you.

    Onward and upward!

      Hi Ryan,
I have over 800,000 fans all gained organically this is happening to other pages not just my page so it can't be something I'm specifically doing, i gained these likes through viral videos and by building a strong community back when i started my pages when reach was much higher by default.

It's strange to see multiple pages losing likes including people like rihanna if you go to her facebook page you will see the dramatic drop of her likes each time you refresh thats probably the best example of what is happening

If you really are getting likes from legitimate sources, then there is no problem losing a few likes. You would eventually get them back. Just focus on attracting more people to like your page and let Facebook handle the fake likes.

True but it's still frustrating to not know why likes are suddenly dropping and for what reason, i don't use "sources" btw thats a red flag right away never use "sources" only use facebooks organic reach and gain likes through landing on peoples newsfeeds via post shares / likes and when someone likes your page sometimes facebook automatically shows on the persons friends newsfeeds that their friend liked the page making a potential of X amount of likes from a single share times that by multiple shares = good amount of likes per week , thats my advice anyways.

Friend ("Fan") likes page - notification to friends in newsfeed
Friend ("Fan") shares post - "featured" in newsfeed for other friends to see
Same goes for if they like a post you show up in the "Ticker" e.t.c giving you more exposure.

organic growth is the best growth.

took me more that two years to get over half a million likes but thats just the way it is.

If you are advertising, it's normal to get Bot likes. FB will eventually clean those out.
It was an issue back then but the news died down

      Dennis,
I've never used facebooks advertising to this day due to the amount of negative things i saw when i researched it, i've never even boosted a post but due to being a large page i guess the same effect could happen even organically by showing up in suggested pages from time to time.

  • Actually I did not see yet, After hearing your news,I doubt about your LIKEs.I think you collected SPAM likes. So the LIKE is deducting. If you would collect Original LIKE, it never deduct. Thanks

Also, I've read elsewhere that facebook wants to remove as many fake accounts and deactivate their likes so that it can foster more authenticity and improve the accuracy of it's system.

I haven't had any unlikes, but one of my pages that gets around 20-30 organic likes per day has had zero a day for over a week, now. No idea why. I've also noticed a decline in post reach. Really sucks.

Its called working online on a third person website. they're the boss they do what they want. if you dont want to deal with this kinda stuff dont use fb or any site like them. Do you own site and market it other ways. leave these kind of social media sites alone and dont depend on them solely

Social media is a great marketing tool. I would never rely on it solely, but I'd also never rule it out completely, either. It's a great source of free traffic, no matter what niche you're in.

Sometimes these things happen. We're just wondering why/what has happened so we can work around it.

Facebook is doing some spring cleaning at the moment. I think all of us will be affected. Mostly, people who bought fake likes, but even the rest of us, I'm sure it's possible for real people to stop using facebook or something.
