I am new on Reddit, doing some commenting and linking, but still cannot see how that can bring traffic to any website/blog.

  • It really depends on what kind of blog you are advertising I suppose.

If you are trying to push a 9gag alternative for example, just direct linking to the image is the only way officially allowed, and will boost traffic stats.

In terms of boosting traffic to your main page with ads and so on, I guess you just have to do it a subtle way that isn't annoying to the reddit users.
  • After you have successfully found the people you would love to read your content or buy your product - talk to them. Be active. Comment on submissions and give helpful advice to people.
  • Reddit can only be effective if you keep yourself active on this. Sharing useful information, commenting, interacting with users is the only way to gain traffic from Reddit. It is a platform where you will get quick response about anything you want to know.
Moreover, you can send personal messages to those who are looking for the same services you are offering.
  • By sharing your website link to reddit will help you to get fresh traffic. You can follow, discuss on reddit will help you alot.
  • But if your post features, let's say, a ton of new pictures on the latest gadget, posting it in the r/Technology subreddit would bring in users who are not only interested in that specific category, but who also will pay attention to most new posts there because it isn't as crowded as r/pics or r/humor
  • The effective way to do this is to be active and, most important, share interesting stuff! People are looking for useful info or entertainment, so you need to spike their interest to visit you somehow.
  • Slade hit the nail on the head. Reddit operates within a unique culture that demands studying before jumping in with links. It is, admittedly, a culture that I have yet to fully understand. The good news is that if you post a link at the right place at the right time for the right reason, you'll hit a goldmine. The same goes for hackernews and stumbleupon.

    • Unfortunately, I am afraid that the Reddit is past tense. It worked before, but from what I hear, no longer provides traffic.

  • It won't get you huge numbers but you can target specific smaller niches by tracking specific niche related keywords/phrases and responding accordingly to them through services like Trackreddit or i think iftt

  • Reddit is a HUGE driver of traffic for myself and clients.

It also takes a lot of work. You have to spend some serious time picking the individual sub-reddits that are relevant to your work, and building a credible presence.

I would participate in a sub-reddit for a solid month before using it to try and drive traffic. This way you can learn what works and what doesn't work. These communities have a finely-honed BS detector, and rightfully so.
  • As others said its all about adding value and participating rather than spamming subreddits.

I also like to send a message to mods on subreddits and see if they're happy with me sharing links to my own site within reason - and most of them are.

Depends on your niche. I can get a few thousand visits a day from reddit quite easily. I'm talking from one - three posts, too.
  • You can bring traffic if you use it in proper way. I am showing you a short process:

    1. Sign Up to Reddit
    2. Share content from other websites
    3. Read the rules of sub-reedits and avoid spamming
    4. Get more up-votes and make front page of Reddit:
    c. Submit your link to a suitable sub-Reddit

    5. Don't be crazy to submit to all time
    6. Don't be frustrated
    7. Follow other Reddit users
  • The only way to get serious traffic from reddit is to post interesting content and hope your post becomes viral in the subreddit.

Once you're in the first 5 posts on the subreddit's homepage, you can expect serious traffic. Other than that - nothing.

But interesting content is the single most important thing. Everything else comes after that, especially with reddit.

    • You can use Reddit to get traffic for your blog or website. Reddit is not only a social bookmarking website it has enormous potential to drive great amount of traffic to your blog or website and all this is free. Reddit is so powerful that it is capable of giving 1500 unique hits in a day. Reddit is much more than a social sharing, news and entertainment platform. Reddit is a combination of two great words Eg. read/edit and read it. Every registered user is able to like (up-vote) or dislike (down-vote) content which result in the ranking of the content.

Make your title interesting and appealing as much as possible. This is the backbone of getting traffic from Reddit, if people find it catchy and unique then for sure they will read your post.
