TweetAdder Tip: Put Automation back into TweetAdder

14 replies
Hey,

Since Twitter has banned bulk (un)following, tools like TweetAdder have become quite labor intensive. And clicking the mouse button 1000s of times (on (un)follow buttons), isn't fun and actually starts to hurt after several 100s of rapid clicks.

So, I just had a great idea and I'd like to share it with you; use an Auto Mouse Clicker tool! An AMC puts some automation back into TweetAdder and the likes

I downloaded a simple and free AMC from Tucows. This was also the only one that actually installed and didn't freak out Norton AV. In case you get it from Tucows too and don't want to install any of the extra stuff (e.g. some toolbar), keep clicking the Decline button (about 5 times... see the irony?) after you've clicked the EXE file. At some point the AMC will be downloaded minus the extra stuff.

Once installed:
  1. Launch TA and the AMC;
  2. Click the AMC's "Locate" button;
  3. Move cursor to desired position (e.g. (un)follow button) and click (to send the cursor position to the AMC);
  4. I've set the click interval to 300ms and it seems to work fine;
  5. Set amount of clicks (example: set 300 clicks if you need to (un)follow 300 people);
  6. Lean back and enjoy your victory... you've just semi-beaten a billion $$$ company's rules
That's it! I hope this saves you a RSI.

Best,

Ralph

    I've noticed sometimes the unfollow button moves however, do you find that too?

      I'm using the latest version of TweetAdder and yesterday I did a massive "Not following back" cleanup (over 20K+ unfollows), using the AMC. The unfollow button didn't move here.

      Did you lock the AMC's cursor position on the unfollow button at the top of the list? Because here the unfollow button at the top of the list stays in the same position, while the list refreshes/moves from the bottom to the top of the TA window.

      Hope this helps

        You didn't get banned for unfollowing 20k? I need to do a cleanup too (not quite that large, but around 3k)... what time limits did you use to safely do that?

          Nope, my accounts didn't get banned, but I've to say that not long after TA's own API got flagged by Twitter. And according to TA this was because some of their users were (un)following too quickly. Also, Twitter's automated systems are actually user triggered... so you only run into trouble when people start to complain about your account. Which also explains why there are lots of crazy accounts on Twitter.

          Re the time limits: Because of TA's API getting flagged, the latest TA version now has a time delay on (un)follow buttons. So once you click a button, you have to wait until you can click the next button. This delay lasts for around 1500 to 2000 ms.

          I've set my AMC's click delay to 1500 ms, which keeps things flowing quite nicely. Though on every 250 clicks 5 to 15 clicks are wasted on delayed/unclickable buttons, leaving me with 235 to 245 successful auto-clicks/(un)follows. In case you prefer a 100% success rate, you might consider setting a longer click delay of around 1800 ms. Which will be a bit slower overall, but your AMC has less chance of wasting a preset amount of auto-clicks on delayed/unclickable (un)follow buttons.

          Except for the click delays, I manage my accounts without any other delays. In fact, during my 20K unfollow stunt, TA didn't have any time delays, so I was able to get the job done within a few hours of non-stop 100 ms unfollow action

          To sum things up: I think with a click delay of 1500 to 1800 ms, a 3K cleanup will probably not get you into trouble. As long as the people you unfollow don't complain, your account should be safe. But I obviously can't give you any guarantees (as I don't know your audience)

          Hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

            One last thing, do you have to do this on a dedicated computer or can you use your computer while it does this? (with the 3rd party click automation) If you cant do anything else while its doing this do you just leave it on overnight?

              When you start the AMC it'll take control of your cursor, forcing you to wait a bit. Which is why I use my laptop for TA, so I can continue working on my desktop. Since TA4 needs a bit more attention than TA3, you have to switch accounts, set the AMC and such, I run it during my working hours. It's becoming a routine here, so I don't really mind the extra "work". Plus, using TA4+AMC is a lot faster than TA3 on full auto-pilot, which used to take all night (bad for your energy bill).

              Also, since an AMC uses a click delay setting, you can easily calculate the time it's going to need to perform a certain TA action. Here's an example based on your 3K cleanup and a 1500 ms click delay: 3000 x 1.5s / 60s = 75m (= 1 hour and 15 minutes).

                Cool I may try this with one of my smaller accounts first before messing with my huge ones. Do you run a lot of accounts or just a few big ones?

                  I manage almost 10 accounts and several accounts have over 30K followers.

                  It's usually small accounts that have to be treated with care, because they have lower limits. For example: you can easily do 500 (un)follows with a large account, without running into trouble. Use the same number on a small account and it might get banned. I suspect this is because large accounts can take more user complaints than smaller accounts. But in the end it's all about proper targeting, as the surest way to get an account banned, is to follow completely random/poorly targeted users.

                  Anyway, I'm also managing 4 brand new accounts for several weeks now and they are doing fine. So you should be fine testing TA+AMC on your smaller accounts.

                    Twitter has banned TweetAdder from the Twitter API for well over a week now. I think it's over

    I am a bit annoyed with TweetAdder. I know it isn't their fault, but the software doesn't really do what I want it to do now. I'm pleased that you have got it working with this work around.

    Another think I would like to do is automatically welcome each twitter follower, but that isn't allowed either. What gives?!

        One of the few things that, for some reason, remained automated. Though I've always used the "Other Messages" feature for sending welcome messages.
