Image copyright issues

I see some people building their following by having images with writing on them, almost like those motivational posters you can buy. But where do they get them from? I'm asking because surely there are copyright issues on these images if they are not purchased?

  • YES, copyright is on everything that you did not create yourself or have the rights for to use, so do NOT do that, you can get in trouble and it is not good if you want to build a long term sustainable business

the ones you a reffering to are probably "infographics" these are very high end and expensive for the most part, you can search for infographics plr or search outsourcers who can create these for you, maybe on fiverr or other micro job sites

    good luck!
  • They are not infographics. They are as I described. Just simple images with writing, like one or two sentences.

Come to think of it, what about the Share button? I see lots of videos I like and click the Share button. But I have no idea who owns the copyright. Are we saying that nearly everyone on Facebook potentially infringes copyright when they use a Share button, since they don't own the source?

    • As a rule words, slogans, short phrases or names are not protected by the copyright laws. They may be trademarked, but that's a different story.

A "Share" button is not protected by any copyright laws (or, at least, should not).

  • I think you're talking about memes? I doubt you'll get in trouble for using them, IMO, but if you're afraid, just use images that are literally yours and add the text yourself.
  • Can you buy images from istock or wherever and then add your own text to it? Any recommendations on somewhere that is cheap to buy images?
  • Yes you can buy photos. I never bought them so I don't know what cheapest sites will be. I use Canva for all my Image editing. You can buy images there too but I don't know what type of images you want.

Here's the websites I found on Google:
  • Adding your company name, photographer name, website URL, or copyright is one of the easiest and quickest methods of helping to protect and identify images you post online.
  • Definitely there are copyright issues on these images so you should purchase image for any kind of use.

    • I am in the same boat as OP, thanks everyone that posted suggestions.

OP: I would suggest like others have mentioned find some copyright free photos and get someone to create one for you with the text that you need.

It seems that you have a good idea of what you want already so that is a plus when working with someone else, they can do a much better job if you have a clear idea of what you want.

Also how cheap is cheap? I don't think spending 10 -15 bucks on a good logo or cover page is horrible, especially if you will be using it time and time again(as in promoting FB ads with that page, or using it to attract fans and funnel to your website, etc etc)
  • In addition to MorgueFiles, here a couple of public domain image sites. Just realize that because someone uploads an image doesn't mean they have the rights to do so. However, if you do some due diligence and use works from respected contributors you should be OK:
