Honestly, Pinterest is the one platform that I cannot seem to pick up. I've been meaning to explore it further.

I tried a few tricks three times, and pinterest always failed me so I gave up eventually.

I'm having the same problem with Pinterest. I believe that Pinterest provides an abundance of information without requiring you to go to the source. So people do not feel the need to follow you immediately.
You'll probably need to work hard on it, and also optimize your Pins so that they can be found through SERPs. This is probably the easiest way to get traffic.

Regarding Pinterest - it works best if you know how to work with images, and are creative. You can develop striking visual imagery that a-t-t-r-a-c-t-s people... and you do need to be persistent .

You can use "rich pins" which are more useful to the end user. With this, you prepare your site with meta tags, test out the Rich Pins, then apply to Pinterest to get them featured.

*Note: you have to make sure the rich pin has the proper tag - your tags fall under 1 of these categories: movie, place, product, recipe or article tags.

It does. Pinterest is tied with Twitter as 2nd largest driver of traffic from social media sites. But in order to make Pinterest worhty you have to pin strategically, optimize the images you pin, etc.

If you decide to test out Pinterest and get to grips with it, create a new website in the following niches, because these are proven to do well in Pinterest.

Recipes
Female Fitness
Weddings
Interior Design
Cake Decorating
(Anything womanly and visual)

Because you're target audience is mainly working, middle aged women, you need to promote only websites that appeal to them.

Now, you need to add Amazon and Adsense units onto your site, and optimize them for a great CTR, and also to make them not look like spam. Clean and Elegant does well here.

Now, pin images from your site to your boards and other boards, taking care to only pin awesome shareable images that will get plenty of repins.

I have honestly gone from $0 to $60 per day using this method with Adsense. Good luck!

People should take a look at what Ezra Firestone is doing in this space because as you mention in your post most of the things that get shared are female centric.

We've done well in the wedding and bridal area along with some success in surgical weight loss.

Best tactic is to take person from Pinterest to a value adding blog post and then have some really soft opt-ins and be sure to do some retargeting via Facebook or google on the visitors to the blog.

Absolutely, Pinterest helps you to bring out more traffic. It is not easy task, you need to better direction to target your audience. First thing to do make sure your content on Pinterest can be found easily. Most of pinners don't add a description to the images, they are pinning and therefore it is hard to find them when you conduct a search in Pinterest.
You need to write a detail description that contain atleast 5-150 characters. Also, you can add a hash tag or web address in your description.
In next process, you consider to add a pin it social button to your website, so your visitors can pin any images they link in your website. It will surely work for your website to increase traffic.

I have illustration-related site with a lot of images pined from it and can say Pinterest takes out the traffic from my site. People just don't need to go to the original while they already see the image on the Pinterest.

I agree, I've had some success with Pinterest as I get about 100-150 visitors to my website per day from pinterest.

Everytime you write a blog post add images such as infographics or instructional images that are helpful and they will get lots of repins.

Also make sure to follow other people and they will follow you back. Most importantly, be consistent and you will get good results from Pinterest.

IDK if we are getting money via pinterest but we are getting traffic from the site. Just get some pics out there. good original pictures and youll get the traffic too

Yes, you can bring more traffic through pinterest if you pin images on a regular basis. Another important source can be the blog posts. However it is important to choose how you are going to share the blog post in Pinterest. You should not create boards stating the "my blog posts". This is not the way the normal people pin their posts. Instead you can create relevant topics and pin the blog posts in them. You should also share external posts relevant to the board.

Pinterest users like appealing images. For instance, a picture of food that makes your mouth water just looking at the picture. Pinning just any old image will NOT work. It has to be appealing.

Hmm, IMO, it depends on the topic. What works with facebook will not work the same to pinterest and vice versa. So, at what mentioned above, don't just rely on a one source of traffic. There are lots of website where you can generate traffic.

I love Pinterest because it's easier to get targeted traffic if you do it properly. The largest users are middle-aged women, so stuff like getting skinnier is huge on Pinterest. Focus on building relationships and trying to show that you're solving problems for your followers, not so much on just getting clicks to your funnel. If you focus on helpful, attractive pins, you can grow from Pinterest, quite a bit.

I get a little traffic from Pinterest.

One is my own accounts where I pin photos and then buy or use social exchange to send likes and repins.

The other is from a little bit of spamming/commenting on pins.

I'm not really deep into Pinterest marketing, but I see on occassion a little traffic on my traffic analytics.
