Is Twitter any good for finding customers

I have joined twitter on the advice of the ridiculously expensive IM course I am doing. The theory is that it is supposed to help me find customers and drive them to my blog and for them sign up to my list and then pay me loads of cash to solve their problems.

However, I am a tad sceptical about this. As far as I can see so far Twitter is just full of people or companies doing the same thing, ie trying to attract non-existent customers.

Grateful for any views on the value of Twitter in attracting customers. It seems that Facebook may be more appropriate as it has people with needs on it. I am not seeing many people on Twitter saying oh shit I am a fat ******* help me get slim. Or I am poor sell me a get rich system.

Twitter is pretty good at getting traffic and getting shares as well. You will have to build a huge following of people to make many sales and it takes time to get the ball rolling but you can also build up your SEO with them. Hopefully your expensive course has a lot better information than that or I would look at getting a refund from them and using Facebook ads instead

To be honest I am not sure that it has. One of their recommendations is that to create the blog all you need to do it is cut and paste articles and add a few pictures. They argue if there is share buttons you can just copy and attribute the link. They seem quite blissfully unaware of copyright issues.

Yeah. You really need to make unique content if you want to be able to get any decent ranking in Google too. It takes time and hard work but if you focus on one thing for a while you can build up your traffic & make some money blogging

    Twitter is powerful.

To optimize traffic quality, though, you can't treat it like a Facebook substitute. Doing so is why most marketers experience lower levels of quality.

    A few tricks:

    1. Use it to boost content on high-quality platforms (like FB).
    2. Use it for viral marketing.
    3. Avoid direct linking. You need to capture and presell to optimize quality.

Thanks, is it possible to explain a bit more how to do these things. Sorry I am new to this.

I almost said no, but I don't want to seem rude. Truth is - these are just very big subjects and I'm just scratching the surface even with those 3.

I can explain 1 and 3 a little better though, sure.

        1. Use it to boost content on high-quality platforms (like FB).

You have a self-perpetuating traffic system in place on various social platforms.

Example: Youtube. The more engagement a video has, the better it ranks, the better it ranks, the more traffic it gets, and so forth.

Example: Facebook posts. More engagement? Better ranking, reach. Better ranking, reach? More traffic. More traffic? More engagement. And so on.

One way of getting the ball rolling, so to speak, is boosting engagement with Twitter (or other places).

        3. Avoid direct linking. You need to capture and presell to optimize quality.

Due to various reasons (related to the nature of the Twitter platform itself, and how folks use it and access it), traffic quality on Twitter has lower quality than many other places.

        Therefore...

Direct linking affiliate offers would lead to bad results.

Example: You directly link to an affiliate offer page for a make money product.

You need to improve the traffic quality. How do you do this? Well, one way is linking to a squeeze and using a series of follow-up emails to improve that quality. There's a saying: the fortune is in the follow-up.

I hope some of that helps, Stephen!

        Cheers,

        Tom

use hashtags for popular terms in your tweets

Follow more and more people in your industry and niche. . Some of them will follow you too.

Keep tweeting and you will start getting traffic.

When you use hash tags people see it outside your followers?

Nailed it. You would do better on FB than Twitter on average BUT, you still need and account. Everything helps.

I have 100k twitter followers all real and people pay me about 40-100 dollars a month to be featured in my bio and tweeted about, and I have yet to have one company complain. Most are very satisfied! So id say it works!

I've found that Facebook is better option because you can target people better than Twitter. You can create a new fan page, create some content and send traffic to it through FB campaigns. About Twitter, if people from your expensive course have suggested you to go with Twitter, I recommend you to contact them via a support ticket and ask for explanations in detail how to do that. I've found in the hard way that buying an expensive course does not mean it is good. I'd expect at least they have a support ticket system. Contact them ASAP before your guarantee ends

I am sending them pertinent questions and suggestions.

I just watched 5 videos telling me how to use a software called tweet adder. Then I went to the website to find that they have been banned by Twitter.

Lastweek I asked them to send me examples of blogs that had been successful following the course they wouldn't do that. But by going through their followers on twitter I have identified about 20 cut and paste blogs that follow their formula. I can't find any that are successful! It is quite sad really because you can tell many of these people are innocents.

It's a waste of time for direct consumer sales.

You see, Twitter is NOT a B2C platform.

It is a lousy platform for that.

Instead, try it as a business to business platform

Find influence leaders and use that approach.

It's a social network, not a sales network. Treat it as such and maybe you'll start seeing how to move that traffic towards something else.

That expensive IM course didn't cover Twitter's search function?? To find your customers, you have to search for them and then start a conversation. I'm really sorry you were confused about such a basic and well-known function.

Hang out in different places on Twitter, if all you're finding are sales pitches.

Seriously, the fun part of the social network, is the social aspect to it. Talk about stuff related to your products and not related at all, you might be surprised where it leads.

I can go days without seeing a real sales pitch on Twitter and it sends a handful of daily visitors to my site, while making it easy to keep in touch with suppliers, bloggers, etc etc

Exactly! Socializing with potential customers and sharing interesting content (not necessarily related to your niche) with them can drive much more people to your services than just tweeting about your product non-stop.
