You know for business owners and CEOs assuming they randomly do it once in awhile, I think it's actually nice and relateable for the public. If you're talking about kids and celebs that do it all the time then there's no power there, I end up skipping or unfollowing those individuals.

I've definitely seen it used by people as part of their marketing strategy on Facebook and Instagram. There's a whole group of people out there who try to build their network marketing businesses through their Facebook profile, and I know selfies are important.

In fact, I was (without permission) added to a group about growing your social following on Facebook.. and one of their main concepts was to get your selfie game on point. The idea being that it lets people know who you are and gives them a face to trust.

I don't personally subscribe to that because I'd rather build a real online business that has nothing to do with recruiting people on Facebook, but that's just me. I definitely know some people (guys and girls) doing this very successfully. Depends on your market and who you want to attract..

Quite agreed on this, sometimes when the topic gets too board, interest dwindles.

Agree with you on this, different level of privacy at times and different concepts to use for business and personal. No rights or wrongs there I suppose Do what is best and most comfortable that procrastination doesn't set in should let us find the right answer

A very interesting question. If I put myself in this box, a selfie by me will not hold much grounds on social media as compare to someone from a celebrity. It shows your personal side off the screen which I assume no one will be interested to see mine except my close friends and family members. Does it give you a certain power? Well, definitely it does to many celebrities out there in terms of the increase in their followers to millions within days. But for a common chap like me, to acquire those powers I probably need a selfie with a Queen of England or a movie star.

    Cheers-James

    Hi there,

This is actually hilarious, but it's true. Selfies give you power....if you sell beauty and/or fitness products! In this way, people will see what your products can do, and what progress you have made while using the product/s.

On the other hand, selfies do not give power, but it gives a chance to show a bit of yourself to other people. It is a way to reach out to them; not to sell anything but to show a glimpse of who you are. After all the selfies taken and liked, and when you reach that big amount of likers/subscribers (we all have a secret desire to have that, right? LOL), that's when you can use it to market your products afterwards! Thus, selfies before sales.

Just my 2 cents. Have a great day, folks!

If you weren't convinced before, Ellen's viral Oscar selfie should be reason enough to incorporate this phenomenon in your social media plan.

It is rather rational as selfies are basically ideal for female diaspora and they can amass great fortune and virality once their instagram/facebook/twitter account goes viral. But their are certain barricades to that as people only want to see selfies of 'beautiful women oozing sex appeal' so its rather rational.

Selfies do show that you are self confident. Have never thought about it from a marketing angle though

Taking selfies of the behind the scenes of the operation of your business is good and could help you get the interest of your target audience. But you have to make sure that you don't make all your post just all about you.
