Do you use document sharing sites?

I don't know anything about document sharing sites so I have a few questions for those of you that use them.

1. I heard you can turn your article's/posts into PDF's and submit them to document sharing sites. Can you really submit PDF's that short - the size of an article?

2. Do you submit the exact same articles from your site or do you have to rewrite them?

3. Do you submit the same articles to one or two of these document sharing sites, or do you have like a whole list of these sites that you submit to?

4. Do you always use PDF format?

5. What program do you use to convert your articles/posts to PDF or whatever?

What document sites are you talking about specifically? Like cross posting your blog posts?

    1. It depends on the doc sharing site some have become more strict on what they will accept but many do accept article size docs.

    2. You can submit the same articles but make sure you change the description and tags so it's not seen as duplicate content.

    3. Only a few of these sites will really do you any good some don't really display your docs so the benefit is very limited on those.

    4. PDF or PPT are the best for these sites if you are good at designing PPTs then that would probably give you the most exposure.

    5. I use OpenOffice but there are some formatting issues that are unavoidable.

For me it is useful to create all the documents in Google ( spreadshits, docs, etc.). There is an ability to make common access of any person you want to, very useful.

I never understood the importance of these types of sites. Sharing government or whistle-blowing content -- definitely. A simple blog post or website page? Nope.

Just seems like spamming, all that copying and pasting. Like what happens with article directories...

Yeah, I was thinking it's probably best to not use the same articles that you have on you site because then both would have the same title and keywords and Google will only show one in the search results anyway. So it sounds like it would be best to use new articles with different titles and keywords.

Only a few of these sites will really do you any good some don't really display your docs so the benefit is very limited on those.
It kind of seems pointless to submit the same article to more than one document sharing site since Google will only show one in the search results anyway. And if Scribd is the best, or at least that's what I've heard, might as well just use that document sharing site solely right?

I didn't realize I could use OpenOffice or Google Docs to do this. What file format are you guys using. I thought I needed something to convert it to PDF.

Yes, targeting just a few of the big ones and taking the time to create traffic driving content would probably be the best use of time.

OpenOffice can save documents in many different formats so you just have to copy and paste, fix any formatting issues (there are bound to be some) and then save it as a PDF.

Scribd was one of the best but lately they have closed off who can share docs over there. Now they are more of a subscription based book reader. I would recommend the following for traffic SlideShare, DocStoc and AuthorStream. Calameo and Issuu are good but require magazine quality content and formatting.
