Automation vs Non automation of content

Hello,
Wanted to get collective opinions on which social media sites you are automating content and which you don't. I will share my experience (note: we are in health and beauty business). I have found that I can automate the following without any drop in engagements (likes, comments, shares, etc.):

Facebook
Twitter
Linkedin

However, I have found significant drop in all engagement with Pinterest if I automate (I use Buffer). Buffer doesn't have ability to automate Instagram so that is excluded from testing.

What is your experience?

You can also automate Pinterest with IFTTT

I have a burner Tumblr account (an account I use for nothing besides this method) and I schedule all of the posts I want on Pinterest through that. Then I link the Tumblr to Pinterest and as my scheduled Tumblr posts start posting, they post to my Pinterest too.

have you tried to manually pin on pinterest and compare engagement to automated process. We are seeing significant decline in engagement on pinterest when we use automated program. I read few months ago that Pinterest really looks down on those programs so curious if others have seen a difference.

Well yes, automating and scheduling posts via IFTTT is 100% allowed within the Pinterest TOS. Otherwise Pinterest would cut the API ties with IFTTT and forbid it... And yes, believe it or not, Pinterest knows the difference between what's being posted through IFTTT (via API) and what's coming from just some random bot. Use your best judgment. There is a big difference between use and abuse. 5~10 scheduled posts per day is completely alright. Leaving for vacation and don't want to leave your accounts high and dry? IFTTT is your buddy. With any automation, a decline in engagement is likely, but that's up to you to find the happy medium. 100% real, human engagement is always best, but if you're like me, I simply just do not have the time to keep up with all of my social media accounts on the business side of things. Automation is key for me... At least to some extent.

DISCLAIMER I am just giving you some info on what I do. I am not a SM marketing guru or anything like that. Feel free to chime in fellow Warriors to offer some different angles.
