How do you increase social traffic to a site/bog?

I put up sharing buttons at the end of my articles and I have some likes and tweets and so on from those, but how do you deliberately increase traffic from them? I have never created a FB page, Twitter and Google Plus accounts for my sites because I didn't like the idea of having to work on them to drive traffic. I was busy enough as it is. In fact, I don't even know the basics of how a social account tied to a site brings in traffic. What do you need to do, do you see a boost in traffic to your site or does the social traffic remain separate i.e. stays on the FB page, Twitter page ,etc? He do you actively get others to share your content.

I simply haven't explored the social side other than putting up share buttons.

Can anyone please forward me to an article that explains the basics of how you drive traffic to a site using social marketing. I may need to hire someone to manage these accounts, as I want to keep focussing on content, SEO, revenue strategy.

    Hi there!

First off, I would definitely setup a Facebook page at least, if not also a twitter page, g+ page, or any other social site you can think of.
I'll layout a typical strategy that I might use in this situation.

    - Create website and facebook page
    - Populate site with content
    - Start posting niche relevant content to your facebook page (ie, if your niche is a about recreational drugs, post articles about recreational drugs)
    - Using facebooks built in ad campaign, create an ad that will attract the right audience for your niche to your facebook page
    - Once you've got a good audience built up (100 - 1,000 - 100,000) start posting links to your site along with the niche relevant content

Your aim with this is to take people from facebook, and push them to your website, where they will hopefully click on things/buy things.

    A few tips:
    - Memes work really really well and are excellent content to share. Look at your own facebook and see how many people are sharing meme images, funny videos, etc.
    - DO NOT BUY LIKES. You want the page likes to be organic so that the people who like your page are more likely to be active on your page, like and share your content, and then hopefully go to your site.
    - Setup a fake account for facebook/twitter/instagram and start following pages in your nice. You can quite easily find a weeks worth of sharable content to 'borrow' for your facebook page in 10 minutes. Then schedule this content to go out through the week. You should be able to do this in about 30 minutes easily.
    - Don't forget to make the links to your site look natural, make sure you add value every time you post, as people might quickly dislike your page.

I hope that gave you a few ideas, if you have any other questions just ask!

Exactly, I felt the same when I asked myself the same question. It's kind of ironic, you want traffic from social media, but you need social followers, to get social followers you need traffic.

If you want to generate traffic from social media I would recommend using Reddit. A lot of the users there are active on other social media sites as well. If you have something that is worth sharing, Reddit will do the work for you.

The majority of the articles I have posted to Reddit have been shared on Facebook and Twitter by hundreds of people.

Social media can consistently bring traffic to your blog, but as it was mentioned before you need to gain traction there and build a follower/fan base first. If you create social media content that solves people's problems - people are going to share it, it also helps if you include an attractive graphic or video that supports your content. If you intermix those posts with links back to your blog posts, you'll start to pull traffic from your social media sites back to your blog. It can be a huge time pull, but this work can be easily outsourced to people who know what they're doing.

If you decide on making a Facebook page (which I recommend) you can share some things of your website on that page. The threshold is much lower for people to go on your Facebook-page (and then on your website) than it is to go immediately on your website.

I'd say the best way is to build an email list for your niche with a simple squeeze page and deliver a lot of value and grow your list.

Once it's big enough create a Facebook, Twitter page and send it to your list. Then you can use both platforms to freely drive traffic to your blog

Just something quick, but it's worked for me!

    Hope that helps

To be honest with you I tried for one year adding relevant content 3 times a day on our facebook page and did several different things like asking engaging questions and even doing free giveaways. They increases my facebook likes but did not do much as far as return on invested time. I have found niche forums, reddit, collaborating with people that have a list to be much more productive. I have found facebook ads to work but having a page to engage people to come to my site seemed to be point less compared to the other alternatives.

I just recently helped launch a page for a new app launching soon and got a pretty decent chunk of likes simply by interacting as the group page on relevant pages. You don't want to spam them, but if you comment something of worth, it helps get your page in front of more people that are looking for your page directly.
