Facebook Adevrtising $4+ oCPC?

In one of my recent FB campaigns, my oCPC was a bit above $4, with a total reach of 2.1k.
My target audience was 7.3k. NYC only, 18-35, both sexes, professed liberal democrats, interested in specifically political publications.

Should it be this high? I've never seen this kind of oCPC, and it's definitely not sustainable for me.

Try working on your CTR and if your CTR increases cpc prices will decrease as well ..

I would try tweaking the ad to increase ctr.
seems as if that is the problem and it will
lower your cpc within time. Fb is a very
profitable platform so you are definitely on
    the right path.

I would try to get a fb ad training course so
you will know what direction and how you
should tweak your ads for better conversions.

    Wish you the best!

Sorry about that, I'll try to have it moved.

What I did was I just posted the ad set, and set it to oCPC. That's what it ended up charging me. Should I be using oCPM/CPM first, or doing manual bidding on CPC?

I found out the more specific your audience is the more Facebook will charge you, I don't know why, maybe it takes them more work to reach such a specific target. Try to go a little broader with the location and make different ad sets with new interests (always changing to a new ad set to split test each interest). Also test different images and copy for the posts that resonate better with your audience.

There is another method that gets crazy costs per engagement (0.0003 U.S. audience), but it works better with videos,

    thanks

I keep on seeing advice to make your audience as tight as possible. I suppose 7.3k, or under 100k, is too tight?

I'm not using videos, but I know someone who might be able to use that, thanks!

Facebook's new change in the way they bill really screwed over a lot of people and it's getting worse.

That being said, if you work on making high attraction ads, you should be able to combat that.

Another option which has been really good is Instagram. Instagram is showing $0.04 - $0.30 CPCs on average!

I was under the impression that FB advertising was still the most efficient way to target your audience, so I chose that to start learning advertising fundamentals. Looks like I'll be looking into Instagrm and Twitter as well.

Your target audience is extremely narrow.
Facebook ads are based on auction prices (like Google Adwords). Basically, if there is a lot of competition to get those 7,3k people in your target, you will have to pay for them.

Facebook also factor in how good/popular your ads are. If your CTR is low, you will have to pay more to have your ads shown.

High competition + crappy ads = really expensive CPC

may seem like this may concern and it will
decrease cpc throughout precious time. Myspace is definitely
highly-profitable platform to ensure you are definitely regarding
    the right path.

I would personally try to get a good fb ad system for that reason
you know what precisely direction and exactly how everyone
should alteration your ads just for better progression.
