  You can make very good images for Instagram using a free account with Canva. It is a very user-friendly editing system, with several templates that would work well, and it includes nice text fonts as well.
  
  Another editor I use is https://pixlr.com/editor/ - again free

Hi,

It looks like there has been research on instagram photos.

Photos with filters are 21% more likely to be viewed and 45% more likely to be commented on than unfiltered ones.

Instagram photos with warm hues, higher contrast, and higher exposure increase chances of receiving views and comments.
