It really depends on your Niche.

Facebook and Reddit are all right, however many many people use them and every day more people are blind to external links.

Reddit is very good for specific ones, for others is awful.

Not much experience with Digg.

Pinterest can provide you a huge amount of traffic if you have nice Thumbnails in your posts. Michelle from Making Sense of Cents is receiving hundreds of thousands of visits from Pinterest. It worht giving it a try!! But as well it only works well with certain niches.

This sums it up. Have in mind that people are different. There are other factors that need to be considered such as demographics, your country of origin etc. Best way to make sure is to try all of the approaches and see which one suits you best. It also won't hurt you to make account for every relevant social media.

I agree with Francisco: It depends on your niche. It could also depend on the methods you use as well.

For me, Facebook has produced the most traffic. In general though, traffic from any social media source is a good thing.

I have found using Rebel Mouse and publishing regular content to it sends a lot of visitors to my website and blog, more than any other source. It is all linked in to your social media accounts and publishes it all onto one nice looking page. Is is definitely worth a try.

These all are high traffic sites to drive more traffic.
Facebook and Twitter are more popular sites that can be used for driving a high traffic to site. But I think you must have to add Pinterest and Instagram in this list.

From my experience, the best are as follows
Facebook - for younger people, who don't want to pay, and want everything right now and free.
Twitter - between 25-35 , less drive but more pay able.
Tumblr - just like facebook
Google+ - lets just say the best customers come from google+,once you get people to like google+ page they will see results in search from you google+ page, unique to them, and that's where you can play all day long.

I disagree with most people, facebook is the king. Is there any type of consumer that doesn't have facebook account nowadays? Yes probably some niche will have better conversion rates in some specific social medias but for traffic facebook is the king.

Which social media site your targeted audiences generally use?
Type of content your audiences are interested?

Every social media site has different community like choose Facebook to build community presence and reach broad audiences and choose twitter for interacting directly with brands and individuals.

Facebook is good for driving traffic but not good for conversion, at least not instant conversion. I read somewhere recently that "People go on Facebook when they don't want to make decisions", and that about sums up their state of mind. Keep this in mind, and focus on getting likes and newsletter/group signups and over time your FB traffic will convert.

You'll have to follow 5000 people the first month and hopefully several hundred will follow back. Keep your queue filled with quality images the entire time and your followers will share them out, attracting even more followers. Sounds counterintuitive but only make a minority of your posts promoting your website and you'll actually get more engagement on them in the long run.

I get a lot more traffic from Pinterest, but the traffic I get from Facebook sticks around on the site much longer.

If you have the money, hire a va to maintain your social media and hit them all. A lot of it can be automated in that if you post something to your blog you can have it automatically spread out to various social media platforms.

Facebook and Twitter are the most common ones. It actually depends on where you are much hooked to and/or which one are you active with. I have no experience with reddit and Digg.

Instagram and Pinterest are also very effective social media platforms. Showcase your most creative and vibrant images and that would surely increase traffic to your accounts.

FB is definitely one of the best, if you want you can optimize everything with adequate cover images using software like Canva.com, Timelineslicerpro.com including the link of your site.
With FB can also use other platforms such Sproutsocial.com or hotsuite.com that can help a lot in the program work and post.
But I must say that even Pinarest is good perhaps with the help of Piktochart.com.
but also I would not underestimate social networks like MySpace and squidoo, are very popular.
