A Quick Method for Newbies - 0 - 1,000 Twitter Followers (Free)

Hey guys, I just had some free time, and wanted to write something, so I thought I would cover a quick, completely free, and beginner friendly method of getting targeted Twitter followers in ANY niche!

(friendly note to WF admins, if this thread is posted in the wrong place, please move it rather than delete it - thanks).

This is a simple way that will easily be able to get you AT LEAST a thousand followers in ANY niche on Twitter.

*If you've already set up your Twitter account, and want to build up MORE followers, just skip to [Step #3] below.

[Step# 1] Pick A Niche for Your New Twitter Page

Make sure it's something you're actually interested in - the number one "KILLER" is losing interest!

Don't worry too much if your niche isn't THAT popular- this method should still work fine, maybe just a little slower than if you use a popular one.

Do a little bit of research, search for other pages on Twitter, use Google Analytics, or just some common sense.

[Step# 2] Think of A Good, Brandable Username/Handle & Create Your Account

Now you just want to think of a good name for your new page. Try and think of something unique, and brandable.... You may even be using your own name, it all depends on the niche you chose.

You can check to see if your new name is available by using a website like NameCheckr(.com).

Once you have decided on your new @TwitterHandle, and checked it's available, just go ahead and create your account (it's free).

[Step# 3] Get Your Profile Looking Good

Add a profile pic.

Add a "Twitter Cover". There are tons of free ones here: TwitrCovers(.com)

Write a decent Bio explaining what people can expect from your page.

[Step# 4] Add Some Content To Your New Account

I usually go for around 6 or 7 posts/tweets, you can add your own blog posts and other content, other peoples posts, images, videos, etc

Just make sure your audience will find it interesting. I personally find that "Quote Images" related to your niche / market work well as a quick way to "fill up" a page.

You can also use tools like Canva, or Pablo to create images to share.

[Step #5] Locate The "Competition"

Find the 3 or 4 most active accounts in the same niche you're going for. (Just do a search through twitter itself). Look for high numbers of likes, re-tweets,comments, etc.

[Step #6] Start Following People

Now we are going to move onto the MAIN bit of this method...following people!

You don't want to just start following EVERYONE, go to your "competitors pages" you found in the previous step, and then follow only the people who have liked andre-tweeted recent posts from those pages.

These people are the most engaged fans... and the most likely to start following you back.

On average, I would say that about 30%-40% of the people that you follow, will follow you back(depending on the type of account, quality, etc).

Think of it this way, if you were interested in a specific topic, and then a twitter account allabout same top started FOLLOWING YOU... chances are, you would follow them back.

Now I know what you might bethinking... that some of these people are just "follow for follow"type people, that won't actually amount to anything worthwhile in thelong run.

Well, maybe like 10% of people that follow you back MAY be that kind of person, the other 90% are REAL people, interested in what you have to say.

PLUS you will probably be surprised at how many NATURAL follows, likes and re-tweets you get(from people you never followed)... I know I was!

Here is a screen shot I took on my phone from one of my many random test accounts I have done this method with:

*I just blurred the name sand profile pics for privacy reasons.

As you can see, out of the 8 followers I had here, 4 of them were NATURAL FOLLOWERS (I hadn't done anything one this account, other than follow some people).

[Step #7] After A Few Days, Start UN-Following People

After a few days, you will notice that your "following" number is continuing to grow higher than your "followers" number.

At this point you are going to want to start un-following the people that aren't following you back. This will keep your follower/following ratio good.

You can use the following(free) iOS App to see which people are not following you back, and then use the info to un-follow the people who aren't interested (this is what I use normally).

Unfollow for Twitter (iOS)

Note: There are also tons of Android Apps available too, but as I haven't used any, I didn't want to make a recommendation.

Or check out this ShoutMeLoud post which shows 5 free online tools you can use to unfollow people who don't follow you back.

I hope this helps a few of you, and good luck!
