FREE Marketing Methods --> Craigslist Isn't Working Like It Used Too

Hi everyone,

I'm in the financial services business and have to say that Craigslist Ads just don't bring in the same quality leads they used to. I mean there was always gems in the pile you'd have to go through first but now it seems like there is nothing.

One guy online basically wrote, "the only people I get from Craigslist anymore are mentally ill people with a keyboard".

I would have to agree. Very very low if not even zero level quality leads.

Just curious if you have experienced the same thing? Is it because there are so many more websites now than years ago? Must be part of it.

Thanks J

Personally, I think traffic quality from Craigslist and other classified type sites was a little better several years ago than it is today, but it was never high quality in my experience. Part of the reason perhaps is that classified type sites are even more saturated with ads than they used to be?

The easiest way to find out about CL is to do a search

Thanks and yes I agree I think it's gotten worse because of all the saturation of ads on there. Hence the reason CL had to make rules about posting phone numbers and links. J

  • I agree. If you want quality leads, you're better off looking for them in LinkedIn or trade forums.

The fact that the economic crisis is over its peak, might also have something to do with this. As people are now more likely to buy new again, instead of second-hand. Sites like Craigslist thrive when the economy is low.

Competition on Craigslist has been intense for several years now and has been increasing. However, if you avoided advertising in competitive places, noone would market on Google, Facebook, Amazon, or eBay. You have to keep it in perspective. Other businesses would not continue their marketing efforts unless it yielded results and roi. We have been posting for clients for the past 6 years uninterrupted and they have no intention of stopping.

Craigslist should be one spoke in your diversified marketing wheel. There is no marketing platform that guarantees all leads will be five-star quality.
