Having a large number of Twitter followers is pretty much useless if they are either bots, fake accounts or just followers who have no interest in whatever you are Tweeting about. The key is to get as many followers as possible that are of real people who actively use Twitter and who are potentially interested in what you are Tweeting about, especially if you are marketing something.

What has always worked well for me has been to follow people that are in the same field as you, have the same interests based on their bio or Tweets, or who follow other Twitter accounts that are related to what you will be Tweeting about. Always try to use attention grabbing titles or keywords for your Tweets as well.

Also try to throw in some off-topic Tweets from time to time to show that you are human, this especially works well if you are marketing something.

It can also help to RT some Tweets of top users in whatever niche/topic you are Tweeting about as well.

Try to stay active and don't go AWOL for long periods of time as that can lead to unfollows.

I would also recommend blocking all those bot/fake/selling followers accounts that follow you because some people will look at your followers before they decide to follow you and if there are a lot of these, you will be losing potential followers.

There are a few other things I do that work, but these are some of the major ones.

It's better to have a hand full of followers that are interested in your Tweets than a million who aren't!

The most effective twitter technique I've done is to follow people/businesses that are: active on twitter, relevant to my niche, have more 'following' than followers (because they are the ones who are most likely to follow back)

You can also look for people who have a problem that you are trying to solve. I.E. search for people who have used a hashtag in your niche or have tweeted "I need" followed by what you are solving. If you can give them a blog post or YouTube video on how to solve the problem, they are very likely to follow you and do business with you.

Instant Twitter Followers can be done with bot, but those followers will not be of any use to you in the future. You should go slow and steadily you should build up your followers. These followers will surely read your tweets and they will also RT your tweets. This will help you to build up a community.

For getting followers you can use RT, Hashtags and above all you should Follow those people who are active within the last few days and not those who rarely tweets. These people will also follow you back for sure and become your follower.

1) Twitter handle:
If you already have a twitter account then, reconsider a professional twitter handle. No one likes to follow a handle that is irrelevant.

Try using smaller handles (twitter won't allow you to go beyond 15 letters).
Do not use religious or emotion provoking handles unless you specifically are into that business.
If your handle is not available use words with numbers. Like if @JhonDoe is not available you can go for @JhonDoe42 or be creative like @Jh0nDoe, yes that's a "zero" in place of the first "O".
2) Profile picture and cover photos:
Use an avatar that represents who you truly are. While this has been said many times earlier, we often forget that twitter, like other social platforms, is a place for human interactions. So better use a picture that has your headshot or the logo of your business in case you want to build a brand around that. Avoid using cats, dogs or even celebrity avatars as your professional twitter profile picture.
Twitter now uses a cover photo similar to Facebook's layout. You have got so much estate to show your professional value. Use it to promote your products or the company theme you want to be known of.
3) A perfect twitter bio is a science:
Twitter provides you with twitter bio which shows up right below your avatar whenever anyone visits your profile. Be creative to use this 140 character space to attract more leads and twitter followers.

Hi Dan,

For me it has been about @replying people 1 to 1, using their names, thanking them and chatting with them, and frequently retweeting folks.

Personalizing interactions, being polite and sharing other folk's tweets helped me get engaged, loyal, clicking followers quickly. But I had to double down and really commit for things to pop.

"Clicking" meaning, following who actually click on your links, visit your blog and buy your stuff. Or folks who genuine follow your feed with great interest.

Hey, thanks for the post. Got some points that were actually really helpful. But this seems a bit robotic work, how about just using bots then? Of course not the creativity part, but that might really troublesome. Why not just going for bot growth and then switch to human controlled when over a certain amount of followers, then follow our steps?
