I need to start tweaking my business tweets

Tweets for your personal Twitter account and tweets for your business account are like chalk and cheese.

It's a wild world out there and if you want to have a full suite of social media messages working for your business or your client's business, it's important to understand what works on all the social media platforms and what doesn't.

While Twitter may seem a little 2006, it's still an effective social medium for getting instant information out to the masses. With almost 300 million monthly users, it's a key tool for business marketing and continues to see huge conversions for businesses who use it on a regular basis.

I must admit, many of my clients have Twitter accounts. However, they barely use them or only really share the same info via Hootsuite on their accounts.

One has recently asked my opinion on it, and I firmly believe if you're not using a social media account, it's best to close it down however if you want to get the most out of Twitter for business, here's what the experts are suggesting for boosting your business engagement online.

Some hints for tweaking your business Twitter account so it gets you results:

Make tweets 140 characters of pure enticing goodness - that makes sense to me; experts also talk about making your tweet like a headline. This is a fairly good tip when planning Twitter posts for business.

Develop engagement opportunities - whether you are doing a giveaway, announcing info ahead of new releases or sharing content not provided on mainstream social media, make it engaging and relevant. Well-known stars do this well, provide snapshots from your business and make it super attractive for followers.

Be an informer - if you are a mover and shaker in your industry, you're sure to get noticed on Twitter. If you provide constant updates on your feed, you will start to become a reliable source of information, particularly for your followers and the business community.

Do share from events - tweeting from events, conferences and industry symposiums is an exciting way to get your followers excited and allow them to feel a part of it. Usually, events have endless content so before long your feed will be filled with some serious pearls of wisdom.

Keep an eye on your competitors - what better way to suss out your competition that follow their feed and keep up to date with what they are up to. It's one of the easiest ways to compile your competitor analysis and a quick and easy one at that.

Spread your message via another social media channel
- if at the very least you are only using Twitter to generate business leads and spread your brand awareness even further then it is an effective way to do it. Build your relationships and associations online via Tweets.

While it's been around for a decade, it's still connecting 280 million users on a monthly basis, so it shouldn't be discounted as a social media tool to connect with your business followers.

I need to reinvigorate my excitement for Twitter and after looking through the research, I think I'll have to eat my words and start using the platform more regularly.

Is everyone still getting their customer's to use Twitter in their marketing campaigns?
I'd love to find out what you're experiencing too...
