Repost the same content is good, or not?

I've been looking over some social media sites mainly facebook, twitter, and tumblr and I noticed that some people post the same stuff over and over again.

Not in an obnoxious way, but I'll just see something I have seen before from time to time.

I'm looking at images not text content.

I also noticed that some always seem to have something new.

Personally, I would love to re-use my images because it would save a lot of time - but what happens? Are there any downsides to re-using the same images? I mean is there a facebook or google algorithm that sees your site/social media sites unfavorably because of duplicate posts, or something like that?

I think it depends on the network, in Twitter it might not be a bad idea, specially if you repost the content with messages for people of different times of the day (for example: "i´m reposting my weekly podcast for everyone who didn't see it this morning).
Facebook is a different thing, reposting content here might not be a good idea since your audience would probably see it as a sign that you don´t have any new content to post.

Agree. Whatever the reason may be for you to "recycle" the old content, you're sending the wrong message. Either you don't have enough money or time for a new content. It's like you're saying - I don't respect you enough and I don't care. If your budget limitations are behind your decision to repost, then don't post too often, but make sure what you have to show is fresh and new. Cheers!

If you add some kind of new value for your followers along with a recycled image, then why not? But as the poster above said, try not to insult the intelligence of people because they will run far and fast.

Not at all. Always post with new fresh content... It helps to boost your traffic towards your site...

Yes it's a good idea, I've done this many times myself.

If something gets a ton of interaction, not using it again wouldn't be wise.

(and yes, you will get those annoying people saying how it's already been posted)...

    Do it anyway

I don't think there is any harm in the occasional repost, especially if you know that followers are in lots of different timezone.

This doesn't work for small(er) sites that produce original content and then get picked up by larger sites. We stopped syndicating our content to others because our site appeared after the content aggregators that were publishing our content. Case in point SeekingAlpha.

People usually keep posting the same content because they are too lazy or do not have enough knowledge to post new content.

Always try to post fresh content. That way you will gain more followers. If you find difficulty in finding new content, go to a PLR site and get fresh content there. Alternatively, you could go to an ezine site like ezines(dot)com and use the articles from there. You must however not change anything in the article and you must leave the author's name and origin of the article.
