This is my first ever post, so first of all I'd like to say hello everybody.

Now on to the matter at hand. I'm concerned about the 'reach' that my business' FB posts are getting. I have approx. 2000 likes on the page, and my posts tend to 'reach' between 500-1500 people. However, I've recently put up a "20% off" offer and the results have been pathetic. Is an offer different to a standard post?

Facebook is currently punishing that kind of posts, they look for specific keywords (sales, offer, etc) and punish those posts by limiting the reach.

My theory is that FB wants people to pay for the "boost post" option through facebook advertising. In the past it was a much higher percentage of your post being seen. Now a days it depends on factors such as number of fans, engagement, ect, ect. So if you really want to get more "reach" for for offer you are likely going to have to pay and use the "boost post" option.

Facebook changed their algorithm last month so that posts made by business pages are only directed towards the relevant audience. While it is now much harder to gain a high reach, I'm assuming that those who do see your posts would consider it relevant.

While Facebook says that this change is to enhance the experience of the personal user and limit the number of irrelevant business posts they see, my educated guess is that it's a big push towards paid advertising. I'm almost cynical enough to believe that we've all had the luxury of a high post reach for the past few months so that when it's taken away from us, we do whatever we can to get it back ($$). Part of a longer term strategy maybe? Again, just a cynical guess!

That being said, I manage a few Facebook pages and I made a recommendation to one of the owners this week that we boost a post just to see the difference it made. WOW - the reach and engagement were both far more than we'd ever had before prior to the changes. It cost $7 AUD and in my eyes, was well worth it.

While I'm not a fan of being forced into these decisions, I think it is worth shelling out a few dollars here and there if you're committed to your presence on social media and it's part of your longer term strategy to gain new business. Not all the time, but perhaps once a week to keep your pages engagement up.

    Good luck!

You need to reset the target audience and enhance the ad contents. Standard posting plus ads can really work out well.
